Jukoshin Ryu

Ju Jitsu is a martial art of attacking and defending against unarmed and armed opponents both bare-handed and armed. Roots of Ju Jitsu are in feudal Japan, where the schools of warrior families developed their skills for decades. Efficiency of the art was tested in battle fields, so it is obvious that only the most practical techniques survived.

Ju Jitsu is Japanese and can be translated to mean gentle art, which is good metaphora for ideology of Ju Jitsu; to do techniques efficiently is not about using brute strength but instead using right timing and opponents' movements as well as knowledge of opponents reactions.

Ju Jitsu was introduced to western world in the beginning of the 20th Century by adventurers and sailors as well as by Japnese immigrants. In Finland Ju Jitsu is practiced for some 30 years. Back then Finnish Ju Jitsukas were instructed mainly by English masters.
The style of Ju Jitsu we practice in our club is called Jukoshin Ryu, which is a modern system founded by Soke Bryan Cheek from England. Techniques of Jukoshin Ryu are extremely straigth-forward and very practical. In Jukoshin Ryu both attacking and defending methods against unarmed or armed opponents are studied. Techniques cover both bare-handed methods and use of various weapons like in traditonal styles.

At the moment Jukoshin Ryu is practised in nearly 30 countries around the world. Jukoshin Ryu is Japanese and means the School of Gentle and Strong Spirit.
